One of the greatest features of a food dehydrator is that you can easily dry large batches of food. However, not all people need lots and lots of dehydrated foods.

If you only need a tray or two of dehydrated foods, the Excalibur ED2400 is the best option for you. It has 4 trays, which should be enough to make a batch of beef jerky, fruit chips or a pack of herbs. Because of its size and prize, it’s a great option for people who are just starting out their love affair with food dehydration.

Another great feature of this dehydrator is the temperature dial. It show the type of foods you should be using with it ex: 155:meat, fish, 125:vegetables, which is great especially if you’re not sure what to use.

The only disadvantage with this machine is that it doesn’t have a timer. Now, the timer is very important in a dehydrator, but surprisingly, people don’t have a problem with it. Most users of the Excalibur ED2400 simply bought an appliance timer and that solved the problem pretty quickly.

This machine is pretty light for its size which is actually a good thing. Though some people don’t like the fact that it gives the dehydrator a cheap feel, it’s actually heavy-duty plus the light material allows the owner to easily move it.

The fact that the machine is square-shaped saves space. A lot of kitchens nowadays have small counters, but that should not stop homeowners from using efficient home appliances to make great food.

Now, a common problem with food dehydrators is the noise. Some dehydrators can be really loud, but not this unit. Users praised it for blowing steady air which without making a lot of noise. If you need to use it well into the night, the noise wouldn’t be a problem to you or your neighbors.

Although a small issue, some owners don’t like the fact that this machine doesn’t come with a power button. You just to plug it to turn it on, and then unplug to turn off. While it doesn’t affect the machine’s performance in any way, I’m thinking you’d expect the convenience of a power button with a machine like this.

Bought this for my husband and he already has used it twice to make beef jerky. It only took 6 hours to make and the quality was the same as the ones you would buy from the store. I also love that the trays are removable and you could insert bigger things to dehydrate. Most of the cheaper dehydrators had the trays on top of each other and no options for different temperatures. Would recommend this product to everyone who is looking for a starter model.
